Sunday, 9 August, 2026 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Sam Gibson — aka Sam the Trap Man — has been trapping and looking after the forest since he was 12, when he was sent into Te Urewera and came away with something bigger than trapping skills: an understanding of who the trees are, what their jobs are, and what our responsibilities are to them.

“After a while, those trips started to mean more to me than the party scene at home — that was where I felt I could be me, really.”

A conservationist, hunter, author and social media sensation, Sam believes trapping is one of our greatest tools — not just for protecting wildlife, but for keeping people connected to the environment. Come and hear some inspirational kōrero from Sam about the forest, trapping, and life.
