The Popular Motueka River

There were many people enjoying the swimming spot at Peninsula Bridge on a hot, sunny day in January.

There were swimmers, rope swingers, bridge jumpers, floaters, and sitters.

This swimming spot is one of many along the beautiful Motueka River which many people have been enjoying during this hot summer.

Luckily, the water quality of the Motueka River is generally of good quality, and swimmable for most of the time, apart from after heavy rain events. People can check regularly monitored water quality by viewing this website – https://www.lawa.org.nz/explore-data/swimming/ including a site at Alexandra Bluff Bridge.

One of the Thematic Groups of the Motueka Catchment Collective focuses on River Access and Recreation. This group will be looking at ways to enhance access and recreation opportunities along the Motueka River during 2024.
