Living river group

The Living River thematic group has six members. In August, this group ran an event exploring indigenous perspectives towards freshwater, and will be continuing to explore the points and discussion from this event, and look to increase membership.

The group has the following objectives:

  • Develop a community ethic that balances resource extraction, river restraint and the intrinsic values of the river.
  • Build community engagement and interest in a Living River, that is respected and valued.
  • With iwi, encourage a cultural shift in mindset to embody humanity and Te Taiao as one being.

If you would like to find out more about this Thematic Group and enquire about becoming a member, contact Shannon Parker on coordinator@motuekacatchment.org.nz
