Three Years, Many Hands: MCC Acknowledges Support Behind Catchment Achievements

The Motueka Catchment Collective would like to say a big thank you – ngā mihi nui to the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) for providing the Collective with the funding and support to build and progress as a catchment community over the past 3 years.

Without this funding support, the MCC would not have been able to deliver the events, workshops, resources, and guidance that it’s been able to do, including the progress and achievements shown on the pictograph opposite.

Volunteer commitment and landowner actions have also been huge so we would also like to thank the hard working people who’ve been involved in  the MCC – from the members of MCC’s Steering Group who have met regularly and discussed ideas and made decisions about the direction of the collective, to the committed thematic group people who have supported projects and events around the catchment.

There are plenty of stories on our website outlining what has been achieved by these groups. Take a read!

In addition, many community members have spent countless hours and hard work out in streams and on farms and lifestyle properties and in the bush, looking after the land and water. The increasing number of those trained and undertaking freshwater monitoring across the catchment is inspiring and fantastic. Many residents and landowners have also spent hours propogating and planting natives, attacking weeds, trapping and much more.

Debbie Win's presentation

In honour of this amazing mahi, MCC held an informal celebration event to honour and thank these people recently at the Smoking Barrel in Motueka. It was attended by people across the catchment who’ve given their time and energy to looking after the catchment.

Debbie Win, Chair of the MCC’s Steering Group gave a short speech, thanking these people, and in particular saying goodbye for now to two key people who’ve been a core part of MCC – Shannon Parker (our catchment coordinator, who’s role has now finished), and Kate Radloff (Steering Group member and Biodiversity and Restoration Thematic Group chair) who has supported MCC right from the start.

The work of the Collective is far from over though!
