Join the Motueka River restoration volunteers

The Motueka Catchment Collective is calling for community volunteers to help look after our beautiful catchment. There are a number of projects that we need your help with coming up this year covering a range of tasks including:
- planting and maintaining natives
- river and reserve clean ups
- controlling weeds, particularly Old Man’s Beard, but also other weeds
- running trap lines
- building traps
- providing support to events such as help with catering and set up
We have busy identifying a list of dates and projects for you to get involved in and once you’re registered we will be calling for interest for each project. An example of some of the projects coming up include:
- A river clean up day on 20 or 21 September in collaboration with NZ Fish and Game
- Help during this winter to clear some of the OMB from a very significant QEII block on a farm, in collaboration with the Motueka OMB Volunteer group
- Weed control in a wetland area on a landowners property
- Help at our April MCC BIG OMB weeding event near Haycocks Bush (see the ad for this)
- A planting day in the Baton Valley likely in September/October to be confirmed

Each time there’s an opportunity to volunteer, we will email you letting you know the details and asking if you’d like to help. There’s no committment to attend each event as we know people are busy, but we really need a committed team of volunteers we can call on, and get to know! There’s lots of work to be done and we can make this catchment amazing!
