Dana would love to hear from you if you have a story or photos to share about the catchment. Please contact her on dana@motuekacatchment.org.nz.
Marios Gavalas
Marios Gavalas has lived in Ngātīmoti for 15 years and feels a strong connection to the awa. He swims regularly in the waters, walks his dog along the banks and plants trees in the catchment.
Through working with Tasman Environmental Trust, he helped coordinate the funding application which now enables the collective. Working together for catchment health involves bringing together many groups and his role as administrator helps volunteers, groups and event organisers carry out their mahi.
He has a background in adventure tourism, guiding and writing. He believes the whakatauki ‘Ko au te awa, ko te awa ko au’ (I am the river and the river is me) will help the Motueka Catchment Collective in its aims.
