River Access and Recreation Thematic Group has 12 members. This group meets regularly and have identified swimming hole locations across the catchment to promote and enhance recreational opportunities of the river. The group has identified a number key recreational and reserve locations along the awa to have MCC picnic tables installed at. Signage has also been installed at a number of points along the river, and the aim is to continue expanding signage along the awa.

The group has the following objectives:

• Identify and promote recreational locations on the rivers
• Improve cycling and walking access along the river
• Promote the river as a recreational asset
