SUMMARY:Flood Risk in the Motueka Catchment - Practical Community Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this community workshop is to build understanding of flood risk and to identify practical ways that different parts of the community can act and adapt to ensure the whole community is safe from the impacts of future flooding and severe wet weather.\n\nJoin us for a community workshop on flood risk in the Motueka catchment. Hear from speakers — including Dr Emily Lane from Earth Sciences (formerly NIWA) — and take part in practical conversations about what recent floods have shown us\, predictions for the future\, what matters most to our communities\, and how Tapawera and the wider catchment can live safely alongside our rivers.\n\nDr Emily Lane\, Principal Scientist with Earth Sciences (formerly NIWA) will speak about the work her and a large team of scientists are carrying out around flood risk mapping\, the impacts of flooding on communities\, and adapation responses that can lead to safer and more resilient townships\, roads\, farms and people into the future\, even with the increasing impacts of climate change.\n\nThis workshop will be facilitated by Heather Collins who has had considerable experience facilitating workshops for rural communities and farmers.\n\nTopics:\n\n\nThe latest flood science from Dr Emily Lane (NIWA)\nFlood risk management approaches\nLocal experience & perspectives\nPractical steps you can take to manage your risks.\n\nLunch provided.  \nRegister by scanning the QR Code or go to this link to the survey – https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KXTCJJX \n\n\n
