SUMMARY:Whenua Iti native plant potting up event
DESCRIPTION:Community nurseries in the Motueka and Moutere catchments have been growing first colonising native seedlings for potting up and growing on for their catchment groups.\nThis is the time of year some of the community nurseries need a little help to finish potting up seedlings to fill their nurseries. \nAt this event you will help add to the plants already potted up by students and these will be planted out by students on landowners properties once they’re big enough. \nPlease note there may be some 1 – 5cm seedlings leftover that we can give away before Christmas for people to take home\, pot up themselves using their own containers and potting mix. There is an opportunity to register an interest in that as well in below survey. \nTo register for these events – \nhttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RLKTMVK

SUMMARY:Fence masterclass: A guided tour with a fencing guru
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to get fencing right from fencing guru John Knoakes. Also learn about new fencing technologies from Ken McMiken from Gallagher. \nThe MCC would like to invite all rural landowners\, residents\, farmers and others interested in fencing to a guided tour around John Noakes’ farm to show you the various types of fencing to protect your environmental restoration work and native bush areas (including QEII lots)\, waterways\, including riparian areas and wetlands\, along with just general fencing tips for your rural property. \nJohn Knoakes is a fencing contractor with tons of experience. He was recently awarded the “legends” award at the Annual Fencing Contractors Association of New Zealand industry awards. \nThe very knowledgeable and practical John Noakes will talk you through the pros and cons and must haves for different fencing functions\, as well as gates. He’ll also give you a demonstration of all the equipment you’ll need\, how to erect and operate electric fencing\, and give you pointers around fencing maintenance. \nMotueka catchment residents will also have the opportunity to apply for free fenceposts through Repost. MCC will be be requesting applications shortly. \nTo register\, go here. \nHere are some photos from last year’s MCC fencing event which was a great success.

SUMMARY:Motueka OMB group QEII weeding event
DESCRIPTION:The Motueka OMB Group\, led by Bruce Stare\, who is also a member of the Pest Management group of MCC\, are holding an OMB weeding event in a significant piece of QEII covenanted bush on private land on Saturday July 27th. Bruce is still finalising details for the event\, including the time. Watch this space for an update and more details! \nIt would be great to have a good number of people from the community along to this event. Managing OMB in native bush areas is priority for MCC\, and is a real challenge in the catchment. If we focus our efforts on tackling OMB in significant native bush areas the task doesn’t seem so huge. It will also greatly help the trees and habitats in these areas if they’re not infested with OMB.
