DESCRIPTION:A FREE Hands-on Native plant workshop in the Baton Valley\n\nThis is a great place to visit in its own right.\n\n\nThursday October 30th\nor\nSaturday November 1st\n9.30am – 3pm.\n\n\n· How to ID our native species\n· Why are NZ native plants so special in world context?\n· Understanding NZ native plant taxonomy and their names.\n· Learn to evaluate the overall health of ecosystems including in response to pest damage\n· Learn about apps and resources to consolidate your knowledge\n· Visit a newly planted Totara forest.\n· Enjoy a day out on the threshold of Kahurangi National Park in the beautiful upper Baton Valley\n\nWho is it workshop for?\n\nAnyone new to learning about native plants\, and for those wanting to broaden existing knowledge. This is a group learning environment where everyone is encouraged to bring and share what they know. Meet with other locals keen on native biodiversity.\nWayne moved to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2001 and quickly developed a deep passion for its unique biodiversity. He established his business\, Indigenous Landscape\, working in the community conservation space alongside local groups\, iwi\, and landowners to help achieve their conservation goals.\n\nThrough this work\, Wayne has built a broad understanding of coastal and forest ecology and the challenges of caring for these environments. A self-confessed native plant geek\, he has particular expertise in native forest establishment.\nWayne has provided services to councils and the DOC\, and has held roles with organisations including the QEII National Trust\, Whakatāne Kiwi Trust\, Trees That Count\, and he managed a landscape-scale project aimed at reconnecting isolated populations of North Island kōkako in the Bay of Plenty.\nWayne is also a Trustee of Tāne’s Tree Trust\, a charity dedicated to advocating for and promoting the use of indigenous tree species across Aotearoa.\n\nHosted by\nThe Baton Valley Trust www.thebatonhouse.nz\nTop of Baton Valley.\nSupported by\nNZ Landcare Trust\nMotueka Catchment Collective\n\n\nBring your own lunch and drinks.
