Community and stakeholders input to MCC catchment plan

Around fifteen members of MCC’s six thematic groups and MCC’s Steering Group attended a half day workshop held at Mahakaruna Farm in Ngātīmotī on Friday 28th February.

The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the draft actions developed by each MCC thematic group and see where there were synergies and overlaps, and opportunities to work together.

The thematic groups include:

  1. River Access and Recreation
  2. Biodiversity and Restoration
  3. Forestry Working Group
  4. Living River
  5. Pest Management
  6. Freshwater Monitoring

The participants worked together well to discuss and analyse what the priorities should be for thematic groups and how the groups best work together over this year and beyond.

The next step is to bring these actions into the wider catchment plan framework and link back to what the catchment community wants to focus on, and how to address pressures that are impacting on the things we care about in the catchment. There will be a two day workshop to do this mahi on March 6th and 7th. Following that workshop, the catchment plan will start to be drafted.

Thanks to all who attended the workshop. We appreciate the time and effort you put in.
