A stunning morning + an awesome crew = huge progress at Haycocks Bush!

The awesome weeding crew just before we tucked into some freshly made buns and cake
As we kicked off the March OMB working bee yesterday (the 1st for 2026) a flock of around ten kererū swooped overhead for their tōtara‑berry breakfast — couldn’t ask for a better start.

With loppers, saws and paste in hand, our 15 or so volunteers powered through the Old Man’s Beard. Those who hadn’t attended the working bees before were given some expert advice and a demonstration from Andy Wards, weeding contractor.

We made excellent progress along the narrow strip of native bush, and we’re now right on the brink of finishing the first stage of this work. One more working bee should do it, along with some contractor input to tackle the big OMB curtains.

Ngā mihi nui to all of our committed weeders. You’re awesome!

Bill McKinlay, member of the BAR group and community nursery operator joining in today. Thanks Bill!
