Many Backgrounds, Shared Learning: Tadmor Seed Workshop

It was a great turn out with a real diverse mix of people from within and outside the catchment at MCC and NZ Landcare Trust’s March sunny seed collection event in the Tadmor Valley.

The purpose of the day was for participants to learn how to collect and grow natives from seed, including how to identify different species.

Susan Fenemor, landowner and farmer, reflected that a real mix of people came along, from Department of Conversation staff who really knew their stuff to local landowners just starting out in seed collection and propogation.

The day was a real success despite having so much to pack into a short space of time. People commented on the ease at which seeds from different trees could be accessed from right at the edge of the QEII block, which sits on the farm in the Tadmor.

Annette Litherland, event organiser from NZ Landcare Trust.
Participants gathered seed from the edges of the QEII block on the property, where there were five seed collection nets up.
Shannel Courtney, experienced botanist talked about right‑tree/right‑place, eco‑sourcing, species ID, rare natives and collecting wild seedlings.
