Local voices featured in new restoration study across Motueka and Moutere

Debbie Win, Dovedale farmer and MCC Steering Group member and also member of the Biodiversity and Restoration Thematic Group pictured here with her neighbour Winifred Long and grandaughter Juna.
RNZ’s Morning Report today highlighted the new Kōtahitanga mō te Taiao Alliance feasibility study, which aims to greatly expand native planting in the Motueka, Riuwaka and Moutere lowlands to boost biodiversity and support flood resilience — and it’s awesome to see local people at the centre of the story, including Dovedale farmer and MCC Steering Group member Debbie Win, and Motueka Valley resident and blueberry grower Sky Davies.

Debbie says of the project: “Farmers want to be part of the solution — we just need approaches that fit the realities of our land, our time and our budgets. If this project can help make restoration easier and more achievable, that’s a win for everyone.”

We’re looking forward to our community being involved and to seeing the results of the study.
