Motueka Catchment Collective at the Sunday Market

It was an extremely cold Sunday morning to be getting up at 6am however the Motueka Catchment Collective were excited to bring their mountain of rat & stoat traps & their pile of native seedlings along to the Sunday Market. They also had a map to collect input and suggestions about the catchment.

The crew of wonderful volunteers set up the Stall with the aforementioned traps & plants plus maps, posters, water testing kits, weed killer & more & eagerly awaited the start of the Market.

They didn’t have to wait long before people arrived, excited to collect their subsidised traps & their free native seedlings. Experts were available at the Stall to give advice on trapping, weeding, planting & water testing with resources specific to our local Motueka Catchment and they were busy, chatting constantly to the steady stream of locals keen to get involved.

It was such a pleasure to meet so many keen trappers & planters & to hear of challenges & successes around our area. We were also glad of the many people who offered their time to future events & who signed up to receive our awesome MCC Newsletter.

For an organisation that has done much work over the last 4 years in the background, it was so good for the staff & volunteers of the MCC to connect with an enthusiastic & willing public. Being at the Market has invigorated the MCC Team in the knowledge that the people of the Motueka Catchment support this work.

Also a big ngā mihi nui to the volunteers that attended that day, Kate Radloff, Richard Davies, Ollie Langridge, Bruce Stare and Jacob Lucas.
