September MCC meetings

Here’s a run down of the meetings that were held in September by the different MCC teams and groups.

MCC Plan working group

The MCC working group met on to start developing the framework for the MCC Plan. This included identifying a short list of the things we care about, and what the pressures on these things are. Based on the information collected from the community through the MCC Survey, public meetings minutes, workshops, among others. Then starting to look into the health of these, and drafting some actions aligned with improving or maintaining the wellbeing of these natural resources. The pic is of the working group. The second pic is of a visioning session held with the Biodiversity & Restoration group.

Biodiversity and Restoration Thematic Group meeting met on 18th September. They discussed BAR funded planting projects and applications including some projects that involve collaboration with other thematic groups, school and community nurseries, upcoming event ideas, and how to keep track of native plant numbers provided in the catchment.

Freshwater Monitoring group met on Monday September 16th. They discussed the SHMAK monitoring happening across the catchment, iwi cultural health monitoring, and the MCC Plan process.

River Access and Recreation group met on Monday 23rd November, they discussed about the picnic benches that the did set up at Tin Pot & by the Alexander Bluff bridge. As well as discussing the opprotunity to liaise with other groups developing a map with access to the river (underway).

Pest Management Group met on Tuesday 24 September. They discussed the Predator Free backyard trapping project, with the agreement to begin in Tapawera; the next big community weeding event in November, funding for the group and the remaining budget, and project applications for weeding and predator control.

Living River Group met on Monday 30th September. They discussed how to move forward following the WAI Pasifika event.

Coming up in November – Forestry Working Group meeting on Friday 1st November, and the Steering Group meeting on Tuesday 22nd November.
