Successful MCC Waterslide and BBQ event

Around 50 members of the community attended our waterslide and BBQ event up the Motueka valley last Sunday. There were people from all over the Motueka catchment, along with others outside the catchment who are interested in restoration. There were chats about what was coming up this year for the Motueka Catchment Collective, planting plans, opportunities for funding wetland restoration on people’s properties, among other things.

The Tasman Bay Guardians and MCC put on really intersting stands on the macroinvertebrates living in the river (collected from just across the road). The tamariki loved looking at the different bugs and trying to figure out what they were.

There were a selection of native plants used in restoration to look at too, bought along by Kate Radloff, the lead of the Biodiversity and Restoration Thematic Group.

The slide was fabulous! It was enjoyed by tamariki and adults alike. Heather and her husband maintain the slide. The water comes from a spring on the hill which flows year round. The water flows down the slide and ends up in a small wetland down the hill, making up part of the special water resources of the Motueka Catchment.

The food was great! Marios was on the BBQ. Along with the usual sausages and bread, Shannon, our catchment coorinator, had made a speciality dish from her home country. Yum!

Thank you to everyone that came along!
